Job Description:

Banning Lewis Academy (BLA) is a K-12 Charter School serving approximately 1,600 students on two campuses in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The mission of BLA is to create a safe, positive environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and a thirst for discovery where students and staff succeed through exceptional programs. We blend the tradition of character development and values with modern technology and tools to create an engaging learning environment that accelerates student achievement and readiness without losing sight of student well-being and personal development.

At Banning Lewis Ranch, we serve students in Grades K-5. Highlights include our BRICKS Character Education Program, Celebration of Learning Nights, 5th Grade Capstone Field Trip to Washington DC, and a well-rounded student schedule that includes Spanish, Art, PE, Music & Technology.

At Banning Lewis Prep, we serve students in Grades 6-12. We carefully transition students into Middle School with purposeful social activities and organization such as our Order System, sports through the Central Colorado Athletic League, and numerous clubs and electives. In High School, we offer traditions such as Homecoming, Prom, and Student Senate. We focus on Concurrent Enrollment opportunities, Service Learning Projects, Senior Capstone Projects, and college and career readiness (such as online courses, career & technical business programs, foreign exchange program opportunities and much more. At the High School level, our athletes compete in the Tri-Peaks League and have many additional extracurricular opportunities such as Mock Trial, Jazz & Concert Band, National Honor Society, and more.

Job Requirements:

Responsibilities:
  • Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals.
  • Deliver highly effective daily lessons based on student need, rooted in research-based instructional practices.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
  • Create a joyful, caring, and loving classroom environment for all students.
  • Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms, inside the classroom and beyond.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Incorporate 21st century technology skills into daily classroom practice and team settings.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively, humbly, and respectfully with all colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Current state teaching license in appropriate content area
  • Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards
  • Preferred two years’ experience teaching
  • High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook
  • Ability to properly manage confidential information
  • Ability to stand for up to 90 minutes at a time
  • Ability to supervise students in all school settings, including in a classroom, on playground or in another play setting, in a meal room, and/or transitioning between any of these settings
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks 
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferred
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary will begin at $38,000 and is commensurate with experience.
