Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Teacher holds primary responsibility for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of The Goodwill Excel Center’s instructional delivery. S/he will provide instructional leadership to teachers, coaches, and administrative support staff at The Goodwill Excel Center. The Lead Teacher will work effectively across the organization to make certain that students are supported in a way that ensures success both academically and in alignment with post-secondary goals. Essential functions include: supervision and development of instructional staff, in-depth analysis of learning outcomes, and identification of internal and external academic supports for all students.


EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty (Math, STEM, ELA) required with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience post licensing, 3-5 years preferred.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in the development of overall educational strategies for The Goodwill Excel Center -including but not limited to - design and implementation of curriculum and systems to assess student outcomes.
• Train, orient, update instructional staff on course sequence, curricular systems, and key instructional issues.
• Observe and coach instructors daily; contribute to Director evaluation of team with comprehensive holistic growth-minded process.
• Support, facilitate, and/or coordinate standardized assessments, baseline benchmark assessments, formative assessments, and action planning around information from assessments.
• Evaluate, coach, and support teaching staff within subject specialty area in continuous feedback loop throughout the school year.
• Help teachers to develop instructional strategies and intervention plans that support growth and increase achievement among struggling students.
• Observe and coach instructors daily; contribute to Director evaluation of team with comprehensive holistic growth-minded process.
• Ensure access to and participation (creation and facilitation) in high-quality internal and external professional development for instructional staff.
• Teach at least one/two core classes to model instructional excellence for staff.
• Work effectively across the organization to link ancillary academic services to students.
• Work in collaboration with Director and Lead Coach to execute effective course scheduling within student management system (Harmony).
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned regarding administration, planning and coordinating.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach and/or facilitate evening class, within a rotation, periodically throughout the term/year. (evening course offerings will vary from term to term as will needed teacher rotation coverage)
• Assist school team with outreach efforts and community integration events throughout the school year. (periodically at night and weekend)
• Create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency.
• Support, develop, and facilitate ongoing job-embedded professional development with subject area staff and entire school team
• In conjunction with Leadership Team, support Head of School and act as designee in his/her absence.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: In coordination with the Head of School, this position would lead the STEM or Humanities teaching staff.


 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current Texas Teaching License required (STEM or ELA).
• Possess the essential mindset that all students can achieve at high levels.
• 2+ years working in classrooms and coaching teachers, preferably with high need students.
• Drive to improve the outcomes and lives of students in and out of the classroom.
• Proven record of results that illustrates the teacher’s ability to increase student achievement utilizing subject-specific instructional strategies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to analyze data for informed decision making.
• Strong communication skills; Ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that empowers teachers to make immediate improvements to instruction.
• Ability to work well in a team; ability to bridge and enhance professional learning communities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
• Effective presentation skills accompanied with inspiring stage presence.
• Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google Applications (specifically Gmail), Excel, Word and Internet Explorer.
• Ability to effectively navigate the Internet.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and make necessary adjustments to achieve learning goals
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Portfolio and a classroom demonstration showing instructional excellence.
• Evidence of experience in effectively leading teams, school improvement efforts, progress-monitoring and developing colleagues/departments, and/or school leadership/administrative experience
• Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player; adaptable to shifting priorities while maintaining a positive learning environment
• Has working knowledge of computer programs and accessing internet applications: Microsoft Office products, Google Applications (specifically Gmail), Excel, Word and Internet Explorer
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current Indiana Secondary Administrator’s License preferred
• Dual license highly preferred: ENL endorsement or Special Education endorsement.
• Ability (license/experience) to manage and/or support a small special education caseload
• Ability (license/experience) to manage and/or support a English Language Learners
• Bi-lingual in Spanish and English highly preferred
• Experience working with high school age students in urban, non-traditional, and/or adult education setting highly preferred
