Job Description:

  1. Supervise and monitor children at all times.
  2. Communicate positively with infants/toddlers and encourage positive parent/child interaction.
  3. Participate in regularly communication with Teachers, Family Advocate, and Education Specialist, to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all content areas.
  4. Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency/illness situations that may occur.
  5. Coordinate with special needs staff in the classroom when indicated, developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom.
INDIVIDUALIZATION (5%)
  1. Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children identified with an IFSP individualized family service plans.
  2. Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns.
CURRICULUM and ASSESSMENT (10–15%)
  1. Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans, which reflect mandated domains and elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, language, literacy, physical and cognitive development of Early Head Start children.
  2. Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans.
  3. Record Anecdotal note for each child on weekly basis.
  4. Prepare screening and assessments for each child.
  5. Follow a consistent time on task schedule, which includes small and large group, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, diapering/toileting, tooth brushing and effective transitions between activities.
  6. Encourage age-appropriate language, experimentation, exploration; stimulate imaginations, problem solving, self-regulation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers, verbal & non verbal communication.
  7. Establish weekly goals that promote individual and group educational plans and include other Early Head start components.
  8. Prepare classroom materials to support developmentally age-appropriate curriculum plans, create and introduce new changes to the learning centers, as needed.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS (5-10%)
  1. Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
  2. Communicate regularly with parents, regarding their child's progress.
  3.  Maintain current and accurate records of family.
  4. Conduct the required three parent/teacher conferences and two home visits for the purpose of assessment and support, and parent’s input.  Share information on classroom progress and educational strategies at school and at home.
  5. Help plan, conduct and attend regular parent meetings with team members.
  6. Work with appropriate agencies and Disabilities manager in developing specialized planning for children and families as needed.
  7. Contact parents/guardians regarding child incidents/accidents.
  8. Encourage parents to volunteer in classrooms to help increase opportunities for infants, toddlers, families to participate in family literacy services.
 
UTILIZE INFORMATION SYSTEMS to SUPPORT CHILD/FAMILY and AGENCY OUTCOMES. (10-15%)
  1. Document baselines, ongoing assessments in Teaching Strategies Gold and Child Plus, according to Federal 45-day time line and established agency timelines.
  2. Document, all significant classroom issues, parent contacts and home visits in Child Plus.
  3. Support Family Advocate in documentation regarding particular concerns with families and children at scheduled weekly staff meeting.
  4. Monitor and understand you are mandated to report child abuse.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (5-10%)
  1. Maintain classroom ratio 1:4, at all times.
  2. Build an effective and respectful relationship with your co-workers, supervisors and families.
  3. Assist with breaks, food service, promoting family style eating and event/activity monitoring and other classroom needs as requested.
  4. Attend meetings, trainings, workshops and appropriate professional staff development activities.
  5. Assure general maintenance and security of facility and assist with inventory of equipment and supplies.
  6. Submit classroom supply inventory and order for upcoming school year by last workday in May.
  7. Other duties as requested.
  8. Adhere to Early Head Start and The Leaguers, Inc agency policies on confidentiality.
 

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Educational requirements: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent  and a (CDA) Child Development Associate Credential,
  •  Certification in Infant & Toddler: Early Childhood Education and higher.
  • Early learning (ages 0-3) classroom teaching experience is required, two years is preferred. Experience should include the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children including at risk, special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse populations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills needed.  Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desirable.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet and e-mail.
  • Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certified (training provided).
  • Health Physical is required at hire and updated annually.
  • Federal and State background check required prior to hiring.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Assist children with their daily plans & daily activities in caring and supporting transitioning in a learning environment.
  • Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities are necessary.
  • Follow directions of supervisors, performing other duties as assigned.
  • Submit all written reports, forms and procedures to the EHS Education Specialist
  • Lifting up to 50lbs., pushing & pulling.
  • Sitting for 1-2 hours consecutively.
  • Standing for 3-4 hours consecutively.
  • Kneeling, bending, twisting and crouching.
  • Ability to work as a team member, collaborate with staff, parents and community resources.
  • Ability to supervise children ages (0-3yrs. old) and ensure a safe environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in classroom, indoor/outdoor play areas. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and or redirection in order to ensure the safety of all children.
  • Have the ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities while adapting to the individual needs of children.
  • Respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis. 
  • Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs.

  • Supervised by: EHS Education Specialist
  • Site Supervisor in Daily Center Operations,(attendance, time keeping, distribution of supplies, etc.
  • Supervises: Child Care Providers and all classroom volunteers.
