Job Description:

  I.  TITLE:                                TEACHER
 
 
 II.  QUALIFICATIONS:              1.   Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or
                                                       Certificate of Eligibility.
                                                            
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
 
  1. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
 
  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
 
  1. Such other qualifications of academic, professional and personal excellence as the Piscataway Township Board of Education may specify.
 
 
III. REPORTS TO:                     Appropriate supervisor and/or principal
 
 
IV. SUPERVISES:                     Pupils, Paraprofessionals, aides and student teachers as assigned.
 
 
V. JOB GOAL:                         To improve student achievement by providing instruction for assigned students in programs approved by the Superintendent and/or the Piscataway Board of Education, and designed to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
 
 
 

Job Requirements:

VI. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Instructs pupils in subject matter as specified by state law and/or administrative regulations and procedures of the school district that focuses on the improvement of student achievement.
 
  1. Provides for the motivation and engagement of students.
 
  1. Remains aware of the subject matter trends, interpretation and methodology.
 
  1. Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
 
  1. Designs lessons using the district instructional framework.
 
  1. Uses data for analysis of student needs.
 
  1. Creates an effective classroom environment for learning.
 
  1. Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, interprets the results and plans instruction accordingly, keeps appropriate records, and prepares written progress reports and/or report cards.
 
  1. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and special equipment as appropriate to the subject area.
 
  1. Identifies problems which may interfere with the student learning, seeking the assistance of districts specialists, as needed in accordance with appropriate procedures.
 
  1. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
 
  1. Exhibits cooperation, promptness and precision in fulfilling clerical responsibilities.
 
  1. Observes safety practices and reports to appropriate persons any injury or illness to a student or self which occurs within the school jurisdiction.
 
  1. Confers with parents, staff members, and students as needed.
 
  1. Establishes procedures that insure proper care of school equipment and supplies.
 
  1. Promotes professional excellence and improves teaching skills through participation in appropriate activities.
 
  1. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
 
  1. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
 
 
VII.   TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Work year, salary and holidays according to negotiated agreement and Board Policy.
 
VIII.  EVALUATION:  Performance to be evaluated by supervisor and/or principal.
