Job Description:

Ocean State Academy Learning Center serves students aged 5–22 in the Providence, Rhode Island, region who have been diagnosed with autism or other developmental disorders. As we skillfully and compassionately attend to the academic, behavioral, vocational, and therapeutic needs of our students every day, we take great pride in and dedicate great care to our roles as educators, caretakers, counselors, and overall champions of our incredible group of students.

Here at OSALC, we diligently create and then expertly implement individualized evidence-based educational programs targeted at our students’ particular abilities and aptitudes. Here, we offer empowering and supportive curriculums and personalized learning plans so that each child can progress at their own pace within a diverse environment characterized by acceptance, engagement, and patience. Here, we embrace the belief of learning without limits, so that our students can maximize their functionality and explore their world with interest and curiosity. If you have a child with the unique needs in which we specialize, here is where they belong.

We’re beyond excited to host our program in our fully adapted building located on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence. The size and layout out of our facility allow us to provide the optimal environment for meeting both the expectations of our families and the complex needs of our students.

We have 10 classrooms with a small population of students in each (~7 per room), all staffed by one certified special education teacher and at least two teaching assistants. The open spaces and large classrooms at our disposal offer distinct and designated unique learning environments that have proven so successful with our student populations, like our sensory room (where our students receive one-on-one therapy), our working simulated apartment (where our transition students practice life skills aimed at independent adult living), and our school store/café (where our students apply vocational learning before moving to actual employment in the community).

Our facility also features technology workstations, a full-sized gym and outdoor play space, library, student relaxation space, nurse’s office, handicapped-accessible amenities, and colorful, beautiful student-decorated bulletin boards throughout.

Conveniently located and easily accessible off Route 146, our school building provides visitors with ample parking, either in the front (as you enter off of Mineral Spring Ave., follow the signs to the main entrance on the right side of the building) or in the back of school (off Cooper Street).
