Job Description:

The Program Assistant provides support to Close Up’s curriculum and program staff in caring for the well-being of our middle and high school student participants. They are in the field working closely with Program Leaders to meet emergent needs of participants on our programs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage healthcare concerns of students under the direction of Program Leaders and our medical care partners
  • Supervise, escort, and/or monitor students in need of medical care and deliver palliative care as directed
  • Assist students with dietary needs in finding proper meals
  • Record all instances of reported medical concerns and keep records updated
  • Support program via administrative tasks including counting/sorting of program materials
  • Assist program staff as needed with the smooth operation of program

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Authorization to work in U.S. for any employer
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal background screening and professional reference check
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination as required by company policy
Other (Preferred) Qualifications
  • Experience caring for people with healthcare needs
  • Enjoy and are comfortable interacting with middle and high school students, their guardians and healthcare professionals
  • Exhibit patience, understanding, approachability, and flexibility while supporting students who are not feeling well and are away from home
  • Ability to communicate in a direct and sensitive fashion
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, manage stress and balance others
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel overnight for work (less than 15%)
  • Capable of keeping up with the intensity of the program schedule, hopping on and off buses throughout the day, and coordinating the movement of students on all program activities in the Washington, D.C. area and other program locations.
