Job Description:

CLASS TITLE:  TEACHER- SPECIALIZED ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION 

 

General Description

Under the supervision of the Principal- Special Education, provides, develops, directs, and coordinates special education services to students that have been identified as individuals with exceptional needs and are enrolled in Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) programs; develops and writes individualized education programs (IEPs) for the students; provides direct and consultative instruction to identified students; develops and maintains a hygienically clean, safe and effective learning environment. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

 

Plans, coordinates and implements special education services to students enrolled in the Santa Clara County Office of Education programs;

 

Provides direct and consultative teaching instruction to students enrolled in the program;

 

Provides instructional support to special education students across a wide range of skills and abilities;

 

Provides recommendations to General Education teaching staff for potential accommodations to the instruction provided in the General Education classroom;

  

Coordinates the development and implementation of Initial and Triennial assessment plans; 

 

Assesses, and evaluates the learning needs of individual students; 

 

Provides general case management of students assigned to their caseload; including but not limited to coordinating IEP meetings with the appropriate team members, communicating with administration, and other appropriate stakeholders, and providing clerical oversight of the Special Education file; 

 

Ability to communicate with multiple educational stakeholders related to academic and/or social/emotional progress during instructional sessions;

 

Develops and writes effective IEP’s based upon the needs of the students; 

 

Collect appropriate data benchmarks based upon the needs of the student in correlation with their IEP; 

 

Disseminates progress reports to teachers as appropriate; 

 

Plans and coordinates work of paraeducators on a daily basis; 

 

Plan and implement instruction for students;

 

Create an effective and accessible learning environment in order to support students with their academic and behavioral needs; 

 

Cooperates in a professional manner with other staff members in formulating and carrying out rules and policies;

 

Develops professional competence through active participation in in-service presentations, and professional growth activities, utilizing local college, university, clinical research facilities and keeping current with professional literature.

 

Develop and deliver structured, goal-oriented instruction to students with input from general education teachers as appropriate 

 

OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

 

Systematically maintains pupil attendance records and completes other business services as required; 

 

Attends scheduled staff meetings, educational meetings, IEP' s, and other assigned meetings as required;

 

Assists in the selection and requisition of curriculum and other instructional materials as appropriate; 

 

Ability to write and implement behavior plans as appropriate; 

 

Ability to create and implement a level system to monitor behavior and document behavior improvement toward IEP goals; 

 

Qualified to carry out CPR and specific SPHC procedures for those students who require it; 

 

Maintains self-health and demonstrates appropriate behaviors; 

 

Under Board approved policies and procedures, manages students with may present behavioral situations which may be physically and or verbally assaultive.

 

Other duties as assigned by SCCOE administration.

Certification and Education

 

Education Specialist Instruction Credential, Moderate/Severe or Severely Handicapped; English Learner authorization (CLAD) and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Experience

 

Demonstrated knowledge in identification of students in need of special education;

 

Knowledge of, and ability to implement the intent of federal and state mandates for special education in a classroom setting; 

 

Experience and knowledge of working with a variety of assessment instruments; secondary curriculum, including vocational education; 

 

Ability to design, coordinate, implement, and supervise the special education programs of students enrolled in the program; 

Communicate well orally and in writing, and work effectively with a wide variety of groups and people.
