Aurora Expeditionary Learning (AXL) Academy is a PK-8 Expeditionary Learning Public Charter School located in Aurora, Colorado. SUMMARY:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an  elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop  and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal or the dean.  
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Plan, prepare and deliver equity-based expeditionary learning lesson plans and  instructional materials that facilitate active learning with applicable grade level standards. 
  • Backwards plans standards-based units which culminate in an expedition.
  • Instruct and monitor scholars in the use of learning materials and equipment. 
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.  
  • Manage scholar behavior in the classroom by establishing positive relationships and  enforcing rules and procedures.  
  • Utilize restorative justice within discipline matters and focus on the learning opportunity. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. 
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback on work.  
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust  teaching strategies.  
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of scholars' progress and development with the  use of appropriate assessments.  
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.  
  • Prepare required reports on scholars and activities.  
  • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings while maintaining FERPA  compliance.  
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to scholars, colleagues and parents  regarding scholar progress and scholar needs. Utilize preferred communication methods  for family engagement. 
  • Establish and communicate clear learning targets for all learning activities. 
  • Prepare classroom for class activities. Maintain safe and clean environment. • Provide a variety of learning materials, methods, and resources for use in educational  activities.  
  • Observe and evaluate scholar's performance and development based on grade level  standards.  
  • Assign and grade standards-based class work, homework, tests and assignments.  
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with scholars from diverse cultural,  economic, linguistic, and ability backgrounds. 
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when  requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.  
  • Collaborate with crew members as needed for scholar success.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities. 
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as after school events, conferences,  Expedition night(s), social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations  as directed.  
  • Comply with all school policies. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching 
  • Teaching license in appropriate subject area. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with  others.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  
  • Must have the ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. 
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the  total school program.  
  • Keep abreast of teacher evaluation metrics and strive for improvement.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.  
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state. 
  • All classroom teachers hired in the 2021-22 academic year or later must have or obtain a CLDE certification. 
Physical Requirements  
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices  and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move  up to 10 pounds. This position may experience exposure to outdoor elements.
