JOB DUTIES

The OMI Computer Science teacher will have two main roles in the 2019-2020 school year.

  1. Develop and teach 4-6  sections of middle school and high school computer science classes. The curriculum will include keyboarding, coding and digital citizenship

  2. Participate as a member of the CTE department to grow and vertically align the computer science career pathway, integrated work-based learning and connect pathway to early college credit. Other electives and afterschool club experiences in STEM are also a possibility.

The Computer Science teacher will be supported by, and needs to collaborate with, other members of the OMI community including the principal, the technology director and staff, and others in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program offerings.

JOB QUALIFICATION

  • Interest and willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment

  • Hold or have the ability to apply for a California Technical Education Teaching Credential in Information Communications Technology with 3 years of work experience directly related to the industry.

  • Appropriate knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM/engineering, relevant to middle and high school grades.

  • Experience with teaching middle and high school-aged students.

  • Experience teaching a student-centered, inquiry-oriented, hands-on science and/or Computer, and/or Engineering curriculum

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, design thinking and design challenges

  • Proficiency and ability to teach computer science languages such as Scratch, Python, Javascript and Ruby

  • Broad familiarity with current thinking on teaching K-12 computer science, including Exploring Computer Science, the K-12 CS framework, and CSTA curriculum and other resources

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to the success of underrepresented students

  • Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, must be eligible for employment in the US and pass a criminal background check. Candidates must possess, or be eligible to receive, a California Career Technical Education teaching credential authorizing instruction.
