Job Description:

Christopher House (CH) is searching for a Primary Teacher looking to grow professionally in the field of Elementary Education. Candidates must possess a specialized interest and passion for teaching children in the primary levels of education.

We operate accredited early learning, elementary, and out of school time programs grounded in research-based curricula and high-quality instruction.

Teacher Objective:Determine the needs and provide for the education and development of primary students. Promote school culture and ensure the needs of all learners in the classroom are met.

Responsibilities:Provide a high-quality learning environment and instruction that meets the needs of all learners in the classroom. Promote school culture and set high expectations for students’ achievement. Coordinate with support staff and larger education team to ensure supportive learning environments for all students in the classroom. Model appropriate behavior.

Develop lesson plans consistent with the Common Core and, Illinois State Board of Education Learning standards, and the schools’ college prep curriculum. In partnership with a co-teacher, develop strategies for differentiation in the classroom and for take home learning. Monitor the academic, social and emotional gains of students through regular, measurable assessment. Use data-driven evaluation and reflective teaching evaluation to improve instruction and increase academic achievement of students. Leverage the arts to promote student achievement, creativity and critical-thinking skills. Participate in reflective teaching practice supported by weekly, team professional development Recommend curriculum innovations and changes to the Principal. Provide classroom management and student discipline polices in alignment with school values and culture. Consult with appropriate staff to determine educational plans students. Ensure a safe, healthy and clean environment for students. Manage administration of the classroom. Some of these responsibilities include marking daily attendance and lateness, checking homework, making photocopies, and displaying student work. Share responsibility for classroom maintenance and orderliness. Assume responsibility for classroom supplies and equipment.

Professional Development: Participate in weekly professional development workshops. Attend summer professional development series. Attend trainings and participate on relevant committees as needed for position. Expand professional c professional knowledge through Christopher House in-agency training and development programs, through professional conferences and education and by membership in appropriate professional groups.

Quality Assurance: Utilize data-driven assessment, including classroom assessment tools, BAS and NWEA, to inform curriculum and instructional choices. Participate in regular data and assessment review sessions to differentiate instruction and create more effective classroom learning

Schedule:Teachers are expected to arrive at 7:30 am every morning and stay until 4:00 pm. A dedicated lunch break and planning period are included daily. Each Friday, students will have early dismissal at 1:30pm and teachers will participate in professional development from 1:30p.m. – 4:00p.m. Teachers will also be expected to participate in planning meetings and parent events after school from time to time. These dates will be announced by the Principal in advance. Teachers will follow the academic calendar for vacations and holidays.

Qualifications:A minimum of three years teaching experience in an urban setting is strongly preferred. Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and/or Polish highly desirable. Experience with NWEA, BAS, Balanced Literacy, Everyday Mathematics, Math Expressions, FOSS Science, Research-based Social Studies, and/or arts-integration preferred.

Education:Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education required. Type 03 or Type 04 Certification required. Master’s Degree preferred.
