The Oakland Military Institute was founded in 2001 by then-Oakland-Mayor Jerry Brown, who had a vision for a school with high expectations for student achievement, character, and leadership. 
The Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy (OMI) develops leaders of character by providing a rigorous seven-year college preparatory program to promote excellence in the four pillars of academics, leadership, citizenship, and athletics. OMI’s goal is that every graduate be college or career ready.
