Job Description:

Assistant Teacher - Early Childhood Center
Lenox Hill Neighborhood House seeks an outstanding Assistant Teacher to join our team in our nationally-renowned Early Childhood Center and help our efforts on behalf of low-income children and families. Lenox Hill Neighborhood House is a 126-year-old settlement house widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers. Founded in 1894 as a kindergarten for immigrant children, the Neighborhood House now serves thousands of individuals and families in need each year through a wide array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, housing, health, mental health, nutritional and fitness. We are committed to achieving an ongoing, organizational culture of excellence and to achieving the very highest outcomes for our clients. For more information on Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, please visit our website at www.lenoxhill.org.
Our award-winning, nationally-renowned Early Childhood Center (ECC) is a model program and lab school for innovations designed to provide the best possible educational, developmental and social services to 141 very low-income preschoolers and their families--all eligible for Head Start--and to advance the field of early childhood education and development on a national level. We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and set the standard for comprehensive educational and family services in the preeminent Early Childhood setting. Our holistic approach prepares children for success in elementary school and in life by offering a seamless, age-appropriate curriculum that strengthens language, literacy, motor, social and emotional and cognitive development, as well as integrated Family Services. Our educational curriculum includes art, music, movement, swimming, farm to table food and many other components from our multifaceted settlement house. Responsibilities: We now have an opportunity for an outstanding teacher candidate who will have diverse responsibilities: they will work in cooperation with a Lead Teacher and, depending on the classroom, a second Assistant Teacher, with creating the appropriate learning environment for our preschool children; assist Lead Teacher in planning and implementing a curriculum of developmentally appropriate practices; help to assess children’s strengths and areas in need of improvement through daily observation and formal assessments; promote parent engagement through monthly class meetings, parent conferences and home visits; and assists Lead Teacher in adapting a differentiated curriculum for children with special needs in coordination with written IEPs, team planning and parental input. Qualifications: B.A. in Early Childhood Education required. We are particularly excited to interview candidates looking for a leadership career in early childhood education, including candidates pursuing their Master’s Degree and certifications. Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese a plus.
