Job Description:


The Riverside Magnet School at Goodwin University (http://www.riversidemagnetschool.org) is a public magnet school in East Hartford, CT serving children Pre-K through Grade 5.   We are actively searching for a full time Reading Teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year to join our dynamic team of educators.  This is a one-year position.  The Reading Teacher will provide direct literacy interventions to primary students, organize reading interventions and support classroom reading instruction.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct reading services to children
  • Organize aspects of literacy intervention services
  • Collaboratively design and coordinate SRBI structures, interventions and data driven decision making

Desirable Qualifications Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of elementary literacy
  • Knowledge of literacy intervention strategies and remedial literacy programs
  • Experience with and ability to provide training and resources to ensure use of effective, defined specialized strategies that meet the needs of diverse early learners in general education settings
  • Demonstrated ability in diverse and inclusive settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with SRBI and social emotional supports
  • Knowledge and experience in the Common Core State Standards, 21st Century Skills, provision of high-quality core general education practices and practical application of differentiated instruction for all students
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of assessments that enable educators to monitor academic and social-emotional progress to drive educational decision making

Required Certification:
  • Reading and Language Arts Consultant (097), Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts (102), or Special Teacher of Reading (063)
  • Highly Qualified Connecticut Certified Educator

Preferable Qualities/Competencies:
  • Team player, positive attitude, and successful track record in the elementary setting
  • Experience in the development of comprehensive systems of academic and social-emotional learning and supports.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and professional learning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support teachers in the use of strategies that will improve student’s skills and confidence. 
  • Experience working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse student/parent populations
  • Ability to use data to assess, monitor, and improve teaching and student performance
