Job Description:

This is an instructional position that facilitates students in learning subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. An Eastlake High School Teacher guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and--in harmony with the goals--establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and has the ability to communicate these objectives to students. Teachers employ a variety of instructional techniques utilizing appropriate technology, consistent with limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. A Teacher is expected to display personal qualities which are appropriate for a professional teacher such as: maintaining professional ethics and confidentiality; being open to learning from others; accepting constructive criticism; and is a positive role model for students and supports creating a positive environment for students, parents and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches courses in content area to high school students, using the school approved curriculum, the standards and benchmarks identified for each course, and other curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  • Develops pacing guides and appropriate instructional aides stressing discovery and laboratory learning as necessary depending on subject taught.
  • Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
  • Differentiates instruction and curriculum to meet individual student needs to include individualized curriculum planning with student baseline data.
  • Provides opportunities for student goal setting, reflection, self-assessment. problem solving and mentorship. This includes Post Secondary planning and guidance.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of appropriate classroom behavior
  • Uses assessment to improve learning and instruction.
  • Sets behavior expectations and consequences that are clear and consistently enforced
  • Assumes responsibility for instruction, duties, supervision of students, and required meetings at designated times.
  • Evaluates students’ academic growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Maintains and submits accurate and complete records as required.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program. Interacts with students, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in full implementation of the School Improvement Plan, MTSS, PBIS and Restorative Justice.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with the District & State assessment program.
  • Enforces school board policies and regulations.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Actively attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Appropriate state certification (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree plus additional coursework required for certification or licensure (required)
