Job Goal: To lead implementation of the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model and support raising student achievement in preparation for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership across the school.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Ability to administer differentiated instruction to students of varying abilities (range of 4th to 12th grade level with most in the 6th to 9th grade-level range). 
  2.  Displays proficiency at identifying common sets of instructional goals and expectations, and a general plan for implementation. 
  3.  Provides ongoing assessment to determine which students are in need of additional or different types of teaching, and which would benefit from accelerated or enriched instruction. Uses dynamic assessment methodologies to identify student’s subject area mastery.
  4.  Exhibits, through lesson planning and classroom management, the ability to acknowledge the common needs of students, while simultaneously recognizing their differences in ability, interest, and potential for growth in a particular subject area or skill.
  5. Demonstrates ability to develop and implement New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS)-based mechanisms to meet students’ individual needs and challenge each to reach their full potential. Incorporate civic engagement, leadership, job-readiness, and other life skills-related program competencies throughout.
  6. In conjunction with vocational and other instructors, design and implement cross-curricular instruction.
  7. Utilize formal and informal assessment strategies.  Assess proficiencies and deficiencies; develop and execute lessons to meet multiple needs of learners – specifically identifying gaps and developing plans to fill the gaps. 
  8.  Employs flexible grouping to reinforce cooperative learning or other methods that encourage peers to learn from each other while simultaneously preparing students for success in State-mandated tests (e.g. NWEA, TASC, etc.) that will foster college and career readiness skills.
  9. Incorporates other skilled professionals and paraprofessionals (team teaching methodologies) into the educational milieu. Demonstrates acumen creating and maintaining a dynamic classroom environment for hard-to-reach populations.
  10. May work on 3-person interdisciplinary team as representative sharing classroom performance insight and developing individualized learning plans.  Works hand-in-hand with Case Managers and Vocational Instructors to ensure that educational instruction is consistent with the individual learning plan for each student.
  11. Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.
  12. Accurately maintains appropriate student records and submits required reports within designated time limits.
  13. Effectively contributes to the execution of the student registration process which is inclusive of Mental Toughness planning, facilitation and reflection activities. 
  14. Participate in weekly education team meetings, full-staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, and other small group/special project meetings, as assigned.
  15. Adheres to and promotes the philosophy and objectives of the school and the Board of Trustees.
  16. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by school staff in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Trustees.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelors or related field
  2. State of New Jersey (Secondary Level) Teaching Certification in Subject Area or in the process of attainment
  3. Classroom experience with disconnected young adults who have dropped out of high school or similar group
  4. Ability (ideally experience) to prepare students to pass high stakes tests (i.e. TASC, NWEA, etc.)
  5. Ability to support, inspire, and motivate 16-24 year-old students to learn subject specific academic skills
  6. Ability to work with a diverse, multicultural staff and students
  7. Familiarity with alternative education and school-to-career practices 
  8. Demonstrated success in raising student achievement with underserved populations in construction training or related field. 
  9. Strong commitment to youth and ability to work effectively with parents.
  10. Commitment to NOYN school model and implementation with fidelity.
