Job Description:

We are currently seeking teachers for our school-age program.  

We serve children ages 5 years to 13 years old and typically each classroom serves one grade level, with 30 children and two teachers (15 to 1 Ratio).  We are looking for team players who are passionate, nurturing, and committed to youth development. This position reports to the School-Age Manager and the Director of Youth Programs and Services.

Responsibilities

  • Planning fun and educational activities to keep children engaged throughout the summer program. Activities can include trips to nearby attractions, sports, games, food experiences, character-building exercises, music and dance performances, arts and crafts, foreign languages, math or science activities, etc.
  • Engaging one on one with children daily about their lives, interests, and experiences
  • Establish consistent rules and behavioral expectations and convey them clearly and consistently. Help children to resolve conflicts by using a problem-solving approach. Ask children open-ended questions and make suggestions to promote problem solving.
  • Supervising and ensuring the safety of all children at all times including on field trips and walking trips
  • Ensuring DCFS Licensing guidelines are met at all times
  • Administering medications if necessary (given proper training)
  • Completing daily attendance and meal participation
  • Building relationships with parents and communicating professionally and respectfully at all times

Job Requirements:

Experience/Education

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a school-age youth or group child care environment.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or other related fields from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • At minimum, applicants must meet the DCFS guidelines for a school-age worker (30s semester hours of college credit with 6 semester hours in an educational field OR 1 year experience with 6 semester hours in an education field such as elementary education, physical education, child development, or early childhood education).

 

Qualifications

  • Requires emotional maturity, respect, and patience for children to: model appropriate behavior; and to contribute to each child's physical, intellectual, social, emotional and developmental needs.
  • Able to accompany children on outings and attend to physical needs of the children.
  • Able to lead/participate in recreational and educational activities with the children as a role model.
  • Capable of providing for the physical safety of active school-age children in her/his immediate care.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to check email navigate websites and use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
