DEAN of SCHOOL CULTURE
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Dean of School Culture (Teacher Supports) is an experienced educator who is skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community.  This Dean will be responsible for leading classroom management and professional development initiatives that will result in a positive school culture.
 
REPORTS TO
Middle School Director or High School Director
 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
10 months; extended day (8:00am-5:00pm)
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Ability to inspire others
  • Experience in peer mediation and other conflict resolution methods
  • Flair for innovative and creative behavior modification strategies
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
  • Passion for working with middle/high school aged children
  • Preference for bilingual candidate
  • Proven strength in classroom management and discipline skills
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. School Culture
 
  • Collaborate with the other Deans of School Culture (middle and high school) on a regular basis to establish school wide culture and outreach.
  • Establish a positive, structured, and fun school culture.
  • Motivate and guide students to become their best selves.
  • Plan, design and implement a school-wide discipline plan.
  • Research and develop character education plan to inform Advisory lessons.
 
2. Students:
 
  • Create, implement, and monitor individual behavior plans.
  • Lead as the point person for discipline issues in the school.
  • Plan and execute incentive programs, field trips, and activities.
  • Track trends in behavior and develop interventions.
 
3. Teachers:
 
  • Create professional development opportunities for teachers regarding classroom management, community building, and school culture.
  • Lead as the point person for classroom management issues in the school.
  • Track trends in classroom management and develop interventions.
  • Work with teachers to improve their practice with regards to classroom management, relationships with students, and school culture.
 
 
4.  Parents:
 
  • Collaborate with parents to implement behavior plans.
  • Establish strong parent-school relationships.
  • Meet with parents regarding student behavior.
  • Plan, develop, and execute parent workshops in collaboration with social workers.
 
5.  Administrative:
 
  • Attend special school events (Talent Show, Prom, etc.).
  • Create, maintain, and update accurate student records, documenting all aspects of the incidents and interventions.
  • Participate in child study teams and referral process, as needed.
  • Provide reports of incidents and interventions on a monthly basis.
  • Supervise students during assemblies, breakfast, lunch, recess, transitions, detention, and suspension.
  • Teach classes on an as needed basis.
