Job Description:

~~The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
•Ensures that all applicable State standards for curriculum, teaching, and parent involvement are being met including, but not limited to student internships, rates of graduation, and student college enrollment; ensures the MCCS vision and mission and school-wide learner outcomes are met; utilizes Transformative Justice practices with all staff, faculty, and students; ensures required reporting is conducted in an accurate and timely manner; supervises the recruitment, retention, attendance and academic performance of all students; participates in supervising and/or or designating supervision of school faculty and staff.
•Serves as an instructional leader to achieve and sustain high levels of student leaning and growth; provides instructional strategies, classroom management, and classroom curriculum design.
•Collaborates with staff internally on activities, student referrals, recruitment, representation, networking, advocacy and outreach; assist in mediations to resolve student-student, staff-staff, student-staff, parent-faculty conflicts and disputes.
•Demonstrates cultural competence by interacting respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms, and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each.
•Plans and evaluates the performance of teachers; establishes performance requirements in collaboration with Director and personal development targets; monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development; recommends compensation and other rewards to recognize performance; assists with disciplinary action, up to and including termination, to address performance deficiencies, in accordance with MCCS’s expectations, MAAC’s policies and procedures, Education Code, applicable regulations and labor contract provisions.
•Provides leadership and works with teachers to develop and retain highly competent, qualified teaching staff through selection, compensation, training and day-to-day management practices that support MCCS’s , MAAC’s mission, vision, strategic goals, core values and Student Learner Outcomes (SLO).
•Evaluates the work of the teaching department; participates in establishing operational plans and initiatives to meet goals and objectives; implements educational department plans, work programs, processes, procedures and policies required to achieve overall academic performance results; coordinates and integrates department education and support functions and responsibilities to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness.   
•Develops and implements a Teacher Professional Development Strategic Plan, in conjunction with teachers, to support educator effectiveness and student achievement in all grades, subpopulations and content areas.
•Observes teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and leadership skills, identifies high-and low-effectiveness performers and provides clear and actionable feedback, resources and support.
•Assists the school’s Director and Dean of Students in leading improvement of student achievement by conducting teacher observation and evaluations with high levels of fidelity; support director in completing classroom walkthroughs and observation; write detailed feedback reports to accompany each observation and provide feedback on strengths and suggestions for growth (Personal Development Plans when appropriate); and conduct one-on-one post-observation and coaching conferences with all observed teachers which allow opportunity to dialogue about specific areas of strengths and development.
•Collaborates with the Director to provide ongoing professional development for teachers, based on an analysis of best practices and instructional research; models and promotes the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision-making and instruction. 
•Assists with planning and implementing standards, assessments and accountability for the English Language Learner Program following State and Federal Program requirements; reports and monitors the program and students’ assessments; provides guidance; and collects/researches/studies data.
•Coordinates and supervises the annual revision of the Course of Study for grades 9-12, curriculum development, teacher classroom observations and evaluations.
•Researches a variety of topics (e.g. courses, materials, training, consultants, etc.) for the purpose of developing directing and administering a wide variety of new programs and professional development services for teachers, including instructional programs, and activities that address the training needs of the school.
•Manages categorical program and/or departmental responsibilities for the purpose of achieving outcomes in relation to organizational objectives and supporting English Language Learners, MCCS’s and MAAC’s requirements.
•Monitors professional development (e.g. consultants, course outcomes, training staff, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that performance outcomes are achieved within budget, department and district objectives.
•Facilitates communication and coordination among instructional staff (e.g. courses for teachers, curriculum related questions/concerns, etc.) for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and ensuring that state mandates are achieved.
•Works with the Director, teachers and staff in the development and implementation of the core components of the school's curriculum; participates in personal development activities to acquire new skills, further develops instructional leadership expertise and expands knowledge of practices that accelerate student learning.
•May serve as the Acting Director in the Director's absence, including attending internal and external meetings, conferences, activities and events.
    

OTHER DUTIES
•Establishes and maintains effective and collaborative working relationships with all staff, students, families, the authorizing Sweetwater Union High School District, the public and representatives of community agencies; effectively carries out oral and written instructions and performs other related duties as requested by the Director; provides supervision and/or participates in frequent evening and weekend school-related activities.
• Attends and participates in meetings, conferences and training sessions; provides expertise, information and assistance to management, staff, parents, outside groups and individuals.
• Represents MCCS and MAAC publically; presents/speaks on MCCS’s and MAAC’s partnerships, fundraising, and advocacy efforts to a variety of audiences; delivers presentations, testimony, speeches, and facilitates large and small group activities and trainings.
•Models and promotes positive/meaningful communication and interactions between and with students, teachers, family and community; promotes a culture of reflection, learning, and data-based decision-making among staff, board members, and partnerships and program participants; provides expertise, information and assistance to management, staff, parents, outside groups and individuals.
•Actively participates in local and national partner organizations such as charter schools associations and National Council of La Raza; attends and participates in management, educational leader meetings, conferences and training sessions.
•Directs special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

 Knowledge of:
•Federal, state and local educational and regulations; Charter School policies; principles and techniques of school administration; safety practices and procedures.
•Leadership functions that span a variety of diverse areas.
•Effective public speaking including the ability to speak persuasively to implement desired actions.
•Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, Project and Outlook.
•Principles and practices of management including budgeting, purchasing, contract administration and maintenance of records.
•Effective mediation, interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
•Methodologies for helping students to achieve and sustains academic success, especially with Hispanic/Latino, English language learners and low-income students.
•Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

•Establish and maintain effective working relationships, including those with MAAC management, school faculty and staff, school Advisory Board, Boards of Directors (MAAC and SUHSD), SUHSD administrators and staff, parents, students, community and business representatives, organizational partners, the public and others encountered in the course of work; engage appropriately and effectively in public/media relations and external forums to benefit the school and the organization.
•Mediate and/or assist in the resolve of student-student, staff-staff, student-staff, parent-faculty conflicts and disputes; and be a flexible problem-solver who is responsible and dependable.
•Exercise seasoned management and political acumen, tact and diplomacy in dealing with complex, sensitive and confidential issues in which there may be multiple and conflicting agendas and positions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION
•Master’s degree in education, educational administration or a closely related field AND five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of education, at least three of which were in an administrative/leadership capacity AND two (2) years of experience in a low-income, high-needs, high English learner population secondary school environment.
•A current valid California Administrative Services Credential, or equivalent, authorizing administration at the secondary school level, OR a minimum of five years of classroom teaching and the ability to obtain an administrative credential within one year of date of employment.
•Demonstrated experience with A-G curriculum development; common core alignment; data-driven decision-making, standardized testing; school site health and safety regulations, requirements and cost-effectiveness for maintaining school facilities and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
•Experience with federal, state and local laws, regulations, education code, special education law/policy, English Language Learners Policies and court decisions applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.
•Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management applications as well as excellent communication skills in spoken and written English; bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
•Title I, II and III experience a plus.
